Have you ever noticed that updating one room in your house often draws attention to the other spaces that are now less than the newly renovated space? That is the case with our St. Margaret’s Residence. After living for several years with an old deck that leads to the newly installed pool, spa, and patio our client decided it was time for their deck to get a make over as well. The existing deck was lacking in flow and aesthetics. The first step in the process was to completely remove the old deck to make way for the new summer kitchen, bar, pergola, dinning area, & loggia. These elements were carefully designed to flow seamlessly together. The custom stone bar and gourmet kitchen is complete with honed granite counter, refrigerator, ice maker; grill, sink, and side burner which truly makes outdoor cooking and eating a pleasurable experience. A cedar pergola was constructed to define the kitchen/bar area while a loggia was built to define the dining area. The kitchen area is kept cool and comfortable by two outdoor ceiling fans, while a large outdoor flat screen television ensures that even the cook will not miss the big game. An extra wide curved counter top bar adds additional seating or buffet style entertaining. Custom curved glass railings surround the deck further defining the space while maintaining a clear visual relationship between the dining area and the surrounding landscape elements. A wide double stair smoothly transitions the deck down to the paver pool deck. Just off the curved loggia a bluestone fire pit with a stone bench warms up the night with a soft glow. The completion of this project left the clients with a complete outdoor living space they can truly enjoy. From a cozy family night around the fire pit to a formal dinner, this project has it all.
