Our firm was hired to complete a Landscape Master plan for this large weekend home overlooking Fishing Creek off of the South River in Annapolis, MD. The dwelling was extremely large in scale and required the right planting to both celebrate the architecture and simultaneously join house and property as one. To this end, a variety of native trees and plants were used in conjunction with traditional plant selections. Out buildings in kind were grabbed with large sweeps of landscaping tying them into the property as a whole. The adjacent home, also large in scale, sat a mere twenty something feet from our client’s residence and would require immediate, mature screening. A mix of 20’ evergreens achieves the visual screen quite effectively. These large trees are complimented with additional layers of plantings which capture the attention, bringing the eyes to ground level. Another challenge was the expansive rear terrace. Designed by the architect in conjunction with the house very little planting space was afforded. To mitigate this circumstance a myriad of containers were used, allowing flowing masses of color and texture year round. Finishing the project, a mix of low voltage and metal halide lighting was installed. The end result was a property family and friends could enjoy any hour of the day or night.
